April 25, 2014:
Silver Sage Garden Centers has your essentials for starting this years’ flower and vegetable garden.
It’s not too late or too early to start seeds indoors or outdoors. Just be sure to read the seed packet carefully for instructions. There are many ‘cool season’ veggies and flowers to start as seeds outdoors right now. They include radishes, beets, carrots, bunching onions, and leafy greens. Other things like squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers are ‘warm season’ and can be started indoors, then transplanted into the ground after the last frost date – early to middle May. Silver Sage carries Botanical Interests and Lake Valley seeds. We love these brands for their wide variety of flowers and vegetables, including types proven to perform well on the Front Range.
We carry Maxfield’s fully organic Soil Conditioner, Planting Mix, and Potting Soil made with coco coir, worm castings, mycorrhizae, and bio char. Maxfield’s potting soil is great for starting seeds and growing seedlings. Once you have seedlings, add nutrients to your existing soil by using Maxfield’s Soil Conditioner to mix in with your existing soil either in a raised bed or garden spot. Plant seedlings in your amended soil and mulch around them with Maxfield’s Planting Mix which will provide insulation to plants and continue to nourish young vegetables and flowers.
Need hand-tools for digging in the dirt? We carry comfort grip trowels, cultivators, and weed pullers to make life easier.
This week we are giving away one small seed packet of your choosing to the lucky winner of this weeks’ Silver Sage Facebook Challenge. Click the link to participate by commenting on the Facebook Challenge post.
